Jeffrey Loria has been negotiating to sell the Miami Marlins to the family of Jared Kushner, an adviser and son-in-law to President Donald Trump, at the same time that Loria is reportedly under consideration by the Trump administration to be USA ambassador to France.
Preibus reportedly has received a signoff from Trump for the post.
Jared Kushner is married to Ivanka Trump and serves as a special adviser to President Trump. The Kushner family acknowledged interest Wednesday, but, in a statement, vowed to back out if Loria is appointed to avoid the perception of a quid pro quo.
Apparently chief of staff Reince Priebus, who went to school at the University of Miami, pushed for Loria to get the job. The Trump Victory Committee is a joint fundraising committee for Donald J. Trump for President, the Republic National Committee, and 11 state Republican committees.
Loria reportedly donated about $125,000 to the Trump campaign.
It has always been a presidential tradition to reward generous political donors with plum ambassadorships.
Egypt to face Cameroon in Afcon final
Egypt scored first at the minute 21 by Mohammed Nani, then in the second half at the minute 58, Cameroon tied the score. The heroics of Egypt's 44yearold goalkeeper Essam El Hadary helped them edge through to the final on penalties.
"Our family has been friends with Jeff Loria for over 30 years, been in business together and even owned an AAA baseball team together", Mr. Meyer said.
This is the first time anyone from the Kushners or the Marlins has publicly acknowledged the negotiations. That team was in Oklahoma City.
Reports last week indicated that the Kushners, led by Jared's brother Joshua, had been in talks to buy the Marlins for months.
The Marlins haven't commented.
During Jeffrey Loria's time as a Major League Baseball owner, he's rarely been called anything close to an ambassador-for the game, fans of the Miami Marlins, fellow owners or the players.
Loria oversaw the creation of the new Marlins Park in 2012. It has been decided that Charles Kushner, the patriarch of the family and a real estate mogul, would not be involved in the purchase.
