"The Xfinity TV beta app gives customers the ability to use and explore the beta Roku channel while Comcast continues to test and improve performance, enhance it with additional features and functionality, and refine the experience to ensure that the app works smoothly", wrote Comcast's Michael DelCiello and Roku's Andrew Ferrone in a blog post.
Through the Xfinity TV Roku app, users can stream live TV through their set-top, as well as access their On Demand library and watch cloud DVR recordings.

In a move that will further stir competition in streaming video market, Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA) is bringing its Xfinity TV app to Roku devices.
Update: Anyone hoping to turn their Roku into a free cable box are in for a disappointment.

Comcast now includes one "primary outlet" with its Xfinity TV subscription.
Variety points out that "Comcast's additional outlet service fees per set-top box are $9.95 per month; customers using their own substitute equipment, such as a TiVo, receive a $2.50 credit (resulting in a net charge of $7.45 per month)".
Comcast now charges $9.95 per month in service fees for each cable box they rent, with a $2.50 credit applied to those who use alternative equipment such as a TiVo. After launch, however, customers can ditch Comcast's equipment, and stick with just Roku.
The beta app has some other limitations.
Comcast announced this week that Roku owners could now use those set-top boxes instead of the traditional cable boxes to access Comcast content. Cable companies argue the outlet charges cover their costs and the maintenance required to keep outlets working. His GOP replacement, Ajit Pai, has since taken the issue off the FCC's list of items on circulation.
