The singer, who won rave reviews for her rendition of the US national anthem at Super Bowl 50 a year ago, adds her name to the list of Super Bowl halftime performers that includes some of rock music's most iconic acts in Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Prince, U2, Rolling Stones and The Who.
While taking a zipline down to the field like an even more glorious Shawn Michaels might not be in play, the superstar should be able to put together one hell of a playlist for her 15-20 minute set.
Speaking to camera Gaga says, "I always want to be challenging the status quo".
"I'm not gonna tell you what I'm gonna do", said Lady Gaga. "I wouldn't read into it, no".
Legendary performer and Gaga confidant Tony Bennett will play a role in the countdown to the show, organizers of the event said. While the "Million Reasons" singer initially didn't want to share any details about her performance with the public, she made a decision to confirm that aspect.

Jeff Sessions' (R-AL) civil rights record before he was ultimately confirmed by committee Wednesday morning in a party-line vote. She had said in a letter that she was "not convinced" that the president's order on immigration was lawful.
Gaga declined to reveal her plans, but hinted at something spectacular.
Aware that many have seen variations of halftime shows before, Gaga is taking on the challenge of jumping on that "big world stage" to bring the world a new experience.
Lady Gaga is feeling a little blue these days.
"Well I don't know if I will succeed in unifying America you'll have to ask America when it's over", she joked. "I believe in inclusion, I believe in the spirit of equality and the spirit of this country, one of love and compassion and kindness".
"We were [rehearsing] in the tent for about a week and a half, then we had to move to bigger studios in Hollywood where we are working on the rest of the show".
Meanwhile, Gaga is putting the finishing touches to her halftime spectacular. "That kid who got kicked out his house because his parents couldn't accept who he is", she said.
