"People were crying. One person bruised their mouth; their teeth fell out".

"It was a train that didn't stop when it was supposed to", Cuomo added. When we got on the platform is when I saw the first vehicle had completely derailed and was lifted up a couple feet into the air. The most severe injury reported was a woman with a broken leg, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said during a press conference at the busy commuter hub.

The derailment took place around 9:15 the Oak Point rail yard near Bruckner Boulevard and Longwood Avenue in Hunts Point, CSX said in a statement. Other witnesses reported hearing a loud boom.

Bridget said smoke rapidly started filling the auto she was in after the impact and she and other dazed passengers fought to get out. She said there was no warning before. Some passengers were carried away on stretchers while others were sitting outside of the train holding ice packs on their heads.

He had vanished without a trace on Boxing Day when he left the home of his wife's relatives in Rio de Janeiro and never returned. He called the murder "isolated" and a "crime of passion" that he said has nothing to do with Rio's elevated levels of violence.

Pictures on social media showed a door at the station with smashed glass and fire and police rescue workers evacuating commuters from the train.

"We were lucky, it could have been quite a bit worse", the official said.

"Very traumatized at this point". "And before you knew it, the impact and people were, like, flying". "We were fortunate. I don't believe there was anyone in the room (that was struck)".

Federal Railroad Administration investigators are en route to the Brooklyn station, according to an agency spokesman. The cause is under investigation.

Another passenger who said he was in the train's first auto told the station that the train seemed to be running at its usual speed when it suddenly jolted.
