The team announced the dismissal of Ryan and his brother, defensive assistant Rob Ryan, with one game remaining in yet another non-playoff season.
He was working under former G.M. Buddy Nix when they hired Doug Marrone in 2013 and became G.M. a short time later, which left him in charge when Ryan was hired before the 2015 season. The Buffalo Bills are now 7-8 after after an overtime loss (34-31) to the Dolphins in week 16.
Ryan had said in the past that the Bills would be his final coaching job, and his brash, outgoing persona would appear to be a ideal fit for a role as a television analyst.
Ryan's tenure in Buffalo ended just before he could complete his second season.
The Bills gave Taylor a contract "extension" prior to this season, but in reality they have the option to get out of it without further pain if they decide they don't think he's their franchise quarterback. So far, the Rams have already fired their longtime head coach Jeff Fisher, and the Jaguars have parted ways with Gus Bradley.
Canada calls for release for kidnapped couple in Afghanistan
The captors have sought the release of a commander who is being held by the Afghan government and has been sentenced to death. Moments later, she speaks to Trump, "They want money, power, and friends", Coleman says of her captors.
While Lynn could be the true successor to Ryan in Buffalo, it's probably worth shopping his services to get into the best situation possible.
Lynn was promoted to offensive coordinator just two weeks into the season after Greg Roman was sacked due to a slow start. Factors outside of Ryan's control that should improve next year include the health and return of players like Sammy Watkins, Shaq Lawson, Aaron Williams, Cordy Glenn, Eric Wood, and hopefully Marcell Dareus if he can stay out of trouble.
In the interim, the Bills promoted offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn to serve as head coach for the final game of the year.
Ryan, meanwhile, may not get the chance to be a head coach again. "I'm not going to do that".
The Bills spared the Jets any Rex Ryan antics in the season finale by firing Ryan. He already interviewed for the Jets head coaching job after Ryan was sacked from that job in 2013. He did, though, also average 6.1 yards per carry this season and pitched in 580 yards on the ground.
