There are tabs for flight status and check in but they are not working.

However, Southwest advised visitors that it was still experiencing problems with website functionality.

Customers of Southwest Airlines attempting to log onto the company's website are now being greeted by a message requesting patience. "We are working hard to solve the issues and get it back up and running. We appreciate our customers' patience as we work behind the scenes to get full functionality back to our website".

In a statement , White Desert , the tour company, said Aldrin's "condition deteriorated " while on tour they were running. According to a Twitter post by Aldrin, he departed for the South Pole on Tuesday (Nov. 29).

The company took to social media to let customers know the website was down and that "flexible accommodations" would be made available for those affected.

Just five days before Christmas as many are travelling for the holiday, the Southwest Airlines website crashed for several hours.

Southwest has the second-largest presence at Portland International Airport behind Alaska Airlines.
