Following the game, Grobe will step down and Rhule will officially take over the Baylor Bear program.
Jim Grobe, who has served as Baylor's acting coach since Briles' firing, will step down following the Bears' appearance in the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl on December 27.
This news came as a shock to many people, including myself, just three days after the Owls won the AAC Championship in a 34-10 victory over Navy and two days after Rhule announced his team would be playing in the Military Bowl on December 27th against Wake Forest.
Can't get enough of Campus Sports?
"When we set out on our search for a new leader of our football program, we wanted a coach who shared our values, who had demonstrated success, who showed a true commitment to the overall student-athlete and who we believed could lead Baylor to a national championship". So what does the former Temple coach bring to the Big 12? "We found all of that and more in Matt and I know that he will be a ideal fit with the Baylor family". Having watched Rhule at work for the last four years, Scout breaks down (video in the player at the top of the page) what Rhule's strengths are in recruiting, how he will handle Texas, and why that could equate to a good fit with the Bears.

Vincent Kompany has been ruled out through injury for a few more weeks and I really fear for the City defence for the time being. Fernandinho gave some defensive help as well while Raheem Sterling and Jesus Navas tracked back from the wing.
Prior to Temple as the Head Coach, Rhule served as an offensive line coach for the New York Giants in 2012, after coaching six years at Temple, first as the defensive line coach, before switching to quarterbacks and ultimately, to offensive coordinator in 2008.
Rhule played linebacker at Penn State under Joe Paterno, graduated with a political science degree and also earned a Master's degree in Education Psychology from SUNY-Buffalo.
The Temple football brand is gaining recognition, not just in Philadelphia, but nationwide and the new coach will need to keep the team moving forward.
In Rhule's first season at Temple in 2013, after inheriting one of the worst programs in the FBS, the Owls went 2-10. He was named to the same role at Liberty University on November 28. Others have been accused of sexual and physical violence in Waco police reports. School regents recently disclosed that 17 women had reported domestic violence or sexual assaults that involved 19 football players since 2011.
Two football program staffers - Tom Hill and Colin Shillinglaw - were also fired amid the fray. Instead, assistant coach Ed Foley will take the reigns.
